Deportment/Behaviour

Classes

When the teacher enters the class, students will stand and be ready to start.  The students should not talk in class. Water bottles and towels may be brought into class and used at appropriate times. Students should finish the class with applause and thank the teacher and the pianist. When a guest enters the room and is introduced, students will stand and greet them in an appropriate manner.

Hallways and Dressing Rooms

Students should take pride in the premises by putting garbage away, keeping clothes in lockers, and maintaining neat hallways and change rooms.  Quiet, well-mannered behavior is expected at all times.  Inappropriate language, yelling, or running is prohibited.

Performances

When attending or participating in performances, students are acting as representatives of the Edmonton School of Ballet and Vimy Ridge Academy.  Impeccable behavior is expected both in the audience and backstage.  Students should clap enthusiastically to show their appreciation and support, but screaming, calling out the dancer’s name or whistling is inappropriate.

Wardrobe

Students are responsible for the care of all costumes provided for performances. Please remember that there is absolutely no eating or drinking (except water) while in costume. Students will be charged for repair and cleaning costs if they are damaged or soiled beyond regular use. Students must return costumes in the condition they were received, on a hanger with a name tag and all accessories carefully attached.  All students, regardless of age, are required to use deodorant while in costume.  Every student should own a garment bag which they can use to transport costumes, should the need arise (i.e. Alberta Dance Festival).
